2020 Northern Stallion Showcase Cancellation Announced

Organisers have today (Monday, March 16th), announced that the 2020 Northern Stallion Showcase, supported by Baileys Horse Feeds and due to take place on Sunday, April 5th at Newton Rigg College Equestrian Centre in Cumbria has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Pam Harrison from the Cumbrian-based organising team explained: “The Showcase takes place at a busy College venue, which may be subject to enforced closure in coming weeks, in addition to which, gatherings of specified numbers of people may also be prohibited. Notwithstanding those formal considerations, visitor numbers at the Showcase approach 500 and given the potential health risks to all of them, along with staff, volunteers and contractors, we have regretfully concluded that the rapidly developing, situation means it is both sensible and socially responsible to cancel at this stage.”

Baileys Horse Feeds Marketing Manager Jane Buchan added: “We are completely supportive of this decision, as we understand the organiser’s commitment to supporting current efforts to increase ‘social distancing’ as an important element in managing the risks posed by Covid-19.

“We will be continuing to work alongside the Northern Stallion Showcase team to support those studs which had stallions entered for the Showcase with ongoing online promotions and we welcome all feed-related enquiries from both studs and mare owners throughout the 2020 breeding season.”

All stallion owners, trade stands will be contacted individually with further information. Online tickets had not been made available prior to the cancellation decision.

Equine breeders focus on Northern Stallion Showcase

The fifth annual Northern Stallion Showcase is attracting entries from studs across the country, ensuring that breeders will once again enjoy the opportunity to individually evaluate a large number of stallions ahead of the main breeding season.

Hosted once again at Newton Rigg College Equestrian Centre and supported by Baileys Horse Feeds, whose team will provide expert nutritional advice to visitors at the event, this year’s Showcase takes place on Saturday April 7th.

Amongst the studs with stallions entered to date, Barrowby Connemaras, based in North Yorkshire, will present four Connemara stallions.
